Point of Care
Point-Of-Care (POC) includes IVD tests performed near the patient in any clinical (hospital bed, ER/OR/ICU/CCU/Recovery room, or clinic), ambulatory, or at-home (testing by a certified professional) setting. POC also includes any non-instrumented rapid diagnostic test that provides quick results (usually within 30 minutes) either in dipstick/test strip or disposable kit format.
POC segments covered by BBC include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Whole blood glucose (non-Patient Self Testing)
- Blood gas/electrolytes
- HbA1c
- Clinical chemistry
- Endocrine (b-hCG, LH, ovulatory time)
- General urine dipsticks
- General coagulation analytes (PT, PTT/aPTT)
- DAT (hospital on-site subsegment)
- Cardiac (TnI/TnT, Myoglobin, CK-MB, BNP/NT-proBNP, etc.)
- Hematology
- Non-instrument based rapid infectious disease test (e.g., Strep A, H. pylori, RSV, HIV, etc.).
